LEAVING JERICHO

O’ Creator of heaven and earth

I am a blind beggar from birth

Wandering in a cloak of darkness

Desperately seeking forgiveness

Longing for the redeeming Light

Cleanse me and restore my sight

Please hear these my humble cries

Do not pass me by! Open my eyes!

“Son of David, have mercy on me!”

You discern my earnest pleas, now I see!

Christ Jesus author of all grace

You have saved me by my faith!

“And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.”

Mark 10:51-52 ESV

A blinded sinner I was from birth

Your death and resurrection prove my worth!

I am Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus

Come fill me with Your righteousness!

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
