SURETY

I often pause and struggle to comprehend

The long-suffering love of the Son of Man

How so much grace and unmerited mercy

Were meant for one so obviously unworthy

Behold His holiness, righteousness and majesty

Leaving me awestruck, driven ever to my knees

To worship Him despite my self-absorbed pride

My sin, past, present and future, I cannot hide

But He has known my weaknesses from the very start

Yet He still wants to ascend to the throne of my heart

Forgiving every dark thing I have said, thought or done

He requires my repentance before this battle is won

So I surrender to the love that drove Him to the Cross

Ever mindful to share this Good News with the lost

Of the hope that I have and the joy that knows no bounds

Secure in this promise, I await the last trumpet sound

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:57-58 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
