LAST(ING) WORDS

Hanging on Golgotha’s terrible tree ne’er was a love so true

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

The repentant thief rewarded looking into the Messiah’s eyes

“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

To Mary, his mother and the disciple beloved like a brother

“Woman, behold, your son!” and John, “Behold, your mother!”

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased

This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood

“I thirst” Jesus said, knowing our salvation He had already won

Scourged, nailed to the cross, bearing our sins for our eternal benefit

Our Lord and Savior cried “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!”

“It is finished,” and he bowed his head, the last words He would say

Until He crushed the serpent’s head, defeating death that wondrous third day!

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:1-4, 6 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
