THE SPRING OF SALVATION

It is the third day

Our hearts still very heavy

So much yet to say

Neither of us ready

A seven mile trek

To just north of Jerusalem

No looking back

Emmaus our destination

Not my first trip with Cleopus

A brother and a friend

Followers of the prophet Jesus

Why did it have to end

But who is this fellow sojourner

Seemingly unaware of the tragic trial

Jesus crucified by the priests and rulers

We hoped He would redeem Israel

But now His tomb lies empty

Angels proclaim “He is risen!”

This stranger speaks with authority

Opening all scripture pointing to Him

How He had to suffer and die

For our sins to be forgiven

But not until He broke the bread

Were our eyes wide open

On the Cross His body broken for us

The new covenant signed in His blood

Our risen Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus!

God’s perfect offering of mercy and love!

“They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord has risen indeed…!” Luke 24:32-34 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
