OVERCOMING

Oh what a loathsome sinner am I

The reason Jesus was born to die

To rescue this lost lamb to His fold

Covering me with His righteous robe

Seeking to save at tremendous cost

God’s love paves the way to the Cross

Repenting, I put all my trust in Him

Washing away the darkness within

Grace abounds from an empty grave

The stone rolled away on the third day

Mercy unmerited knocks at my heart’s door

Redeemed, I could never want for more

But the Light of truth and fullness of joy

Overcome every trick Satan employs

This is my hope through trials and tribulation

Christ Jesus, the author of my salvation!

“For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
