NOT TOO LATE

When did I grow so old

Just yesterday I was young

Not always doing what I was told

Life’s race had just begun

But now I am in a later season

The pace not near as fast

Perhaps I have more reason

Each day closer than the last

Looking back with mixed emotions

Would I make the same mistakes again

Not just going through the motions

But making necessary amends

To really know what is true

And finally be set free

To see exactly what I need to do

I am driven ever to my knees

For so long a time I did not realize

The depth of my sinfulness and pride

Then The Holy Spirit opened up my eyes

Christ Jesus suffered and died!

To reconcile me to His glorious throne

Love greater than any ever known

His righteousness now my very own

Unending mercy and grace…

leading me to my eternal home!

“Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
