MEMORIAL DAY

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:12-13 ESV

Dear Lord, thank you for the brave warriors who fought for us

We are blessed because of their great sacrifice for our country

Never let us take for granted our freedoms because of their service

Every day let us remember those who died for our precious liberty

Let us never forget the reason for the lives spent so we might live

To enjoy the many blessings afforded us by Your love and grace

Draw us ever closer to the One You sent for our sins to forgive

Christ Jesus is the one who suffered and died in our deserved place

Every day valiant women and men stand guard against our enemies

We pray for their defense and that you will bring them safely home to us

Longing for the day when war will be no more and all death will cease

Thank You Lord for Your amazing sacrifice on this day of remembrance

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
