THE GREATEST GIFT

“And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:8-11 ESV

I have no gift to give the swaddled babe

Except an unworthy repentant heart

The very thing He was born to save

By His redeeming love before the start

Creator of the heavens and the earth

Becoming flesh to rescue even me

Humble beginnings by the virgin birth

I worship my King on bended knee

Lifting my eyes to His supreme sacrifice

Unmeasurable mercy flows from the Cross

Oh how can it be He was born to die

The great shepherd pursues even one lost

More than a love story on a starry silent night

Christ Jesus is the author of abundant grace

Hear the host of heaven exalting this holy Light

Sing “hallelujah” until we see our Savior’s face

and then forevermore!

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
