“GOD HAS GIVEN”

“As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.” 1 Samuel 18:1 ESV

Jonathan, first born son of King Saul

A humble soul lovingly knit to another

Jesus, God’s only Son, given for us all

My soul’s Guardian and great Shepherd

The prince made a covenant before the Lord

He pleaded with his father David’s life to keep

Ours is the new covenant in the Savior’s blood

He intercedes for us with groanings so deep

A brother forever, loyal, brave and true

Gifting his robe, armor, bow, belt and sword

Jesus promises whatever we ask, he will do

When we pray according to His Word

Swifter than an eagle, stronger than a lion

The Philistines were given into his hand

God’s Provision for salvation comes out of Zion

Against His Righteousness no evil can stand

Jonathan fought well and in battle he died

His life’s legacy is one of love and loyalty

Christ Jesus saves us by his supreme sacrifice

His resurrection our sure hope for all eternity!

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,” John 1:12 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
