THE FIRST CALLING

He had fished all day

So many debts to repay

But the catch was lean

He had nets to clean

The Rabbi on the beach

Climbs aboard to teach

Then He tells Simon Peter

Time to go deeper

Let the nets down again

Simon answered him

We toiled all night

Not a fish in sight

But Simon took his word

Humbly submitting to the Lord

So many fish were caught

Another boat was sought

The bulging nets nearly broke

The catch filling both boats

Simon fell down at Jesus’ knees

O Lord, I am sinful, so unworthy

Amazed at what they had seen

So also the sons of Zebedee

Jesus said do not be afraid Simon

From now on you will be catching men!

“And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.”*

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

John 10:27-28 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
