One year ago today God brought me through an ordeal with my heart. In answer to many prayers and by His great mercy God showed me so much love and taught me to give all my cares to Him. Two months later my heart was completely healed! I wrote this poem a couple days after my heart attack and added the last stanza a few days ago.
Oh my heart How it ached From the start My world quaked
Beneath my feet The everlasting rock Rescuing me My hope unlocked
By the sin-bearer On Calvary’s tree Answering prayer Redeeming me
Grace and mercy Love unmeasured For the unworthy The eternal treasure
Risen to claim His very own Never the same My heart of stone
Now my cares Are His alone The burden-bearer On heaven’s throne!
“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 ESV
I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share.
In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified!
