MEET ME IN GETHSEMANE

O Lord,

How can it be you came for me

The foremost sinner to pursue

By the incarnation of grace and mercy

“Kiss the Son”, my hope and refuge

How can it be you prayed for me

If only the Cross could be stayed

Blood droplets of love in agony

“Kiss the Son”, now betrayed

How can it be you died for me

Your body laid in another’s grave

Crushing the one who bruised your heel

“Kiss the Son”, risen the third day!

How can it be you are returning for me

King of kings, Lord of all, Son of Man

Praying for your bride in Gethsemane

“Kiss the Son”, God’s holy One on Zion!

Come, Lord Jesus, come!

Amen

“Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”

Psalm 2:11-12 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
