THE HOPEFUL PRIZE

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14 ESV

See the Cross on Mount Calvary

Where the Savior died for me

Born for such a time as this

Betrayed with an unholy kiss

The promise from the beginning

Our heavenly Father’s best offering

Despised, rejected, this cornerstone

Desires to make each heart His throne

Jesus crucified on that terrible tree

Suffered the wrath meant for me

The chief of all sinners that I am

Mercy yet flows from the Son of Man

Love opens the borrowed grave

Grace upon grace ever saves

Now I await my Lord’s soon return

The hopeful prize I did not earn

See the Cross on Mount Calvary

Where the Savior died for you and me

Christ lifted high for all who see

By His wounds we are forever set free!

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:18-21 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
