THE SCARLET CORD

“Behold, when we come into the land, you shall tie this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and you shall gather into your house your father and mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household.” Joshua 2:18 ESV

God leads His own to the promised land

Two spies sent by Joshua cross the Jordan

Hidden from harm by the harlot Rahab

Ancestress of King David and the Son of Man

On the rooftop the messengers safely stay

Rahab looked to God’s mercy and grace

The men said “Our life for yours even to death!”

Then to Joshua they returned with stealth

In the window Rahab tied the scarlet cord

Placing all her hope and trust in the Lord

When the walls of Jericho fell on day seven

Her house was the only promised haven

Rahab and her family were saved by her faith

The last trumpet will sound one glorious day!

Tie the scarlet cord of Christ Jesus in your heart

Abide in His amazing love that will never part!

“The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt”

Exodus 12:13 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
