SIMON OF CYRENE

“And as they led him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it behind Jesus.”

Luke 23:26 ESV

Just a sinner trying to find my way through streets of chaos

I never thought I would be drawn to His righteousness

His face so marred He did not even appear to be human

How could I so unworthy ever hope to know the Son of Man

Compelled to walk the same painful blood-stained path Jesus trod

Tears and jeers pave the road of doubting disciples and the angry mob

Oh blessed assurance that The Cross was the one only He could bear

All our sins lovingly and mercifully carried by our Savior most dear

How can I not be changed by His marvelous gift of grace

Granting me sufficient strength to finish life’s arduous race

No longer a complacent bystander along the path He trod

Unworthy still but daily I take up my cross for the Son of God

…and follow Him!

“And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him wdeny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Luke 9:23 ESV

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
