“LEAD ME TO THE ROCK”

“from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I,” Psalm 61:2 ESV

O Lord,

I groan because of the tumult of my heart

Break the yoke of sin, burst its bonds apart

Though my flesh and my heart may fail

By Your endless grace I am saved by faith!

You are my strength and my forever portion

O Lord, I wait for Your unmerited salvation

My new heart will trust in Your love forever

You are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer!

My heart pours out like water before You, O Lord

Trusting always in the power of Your mighty Sword!

Be my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold

One Shepherd, one found flock, one redeemed fold

Your Salvation stands at the door and knocks

I find peace in the cleft of the everlasting rock

My God, my high rock, in whom I take refuge

Your mercy flows over me in a saving deluge!

To the hills of faith again I lift up my longing eyes

I drink from the spiritual rock that is Jesus Christ!

Out of His heart flow rivers of sating living water!

Rescuing forever Your unworthy sons and daughters!

Hallelujah and Amen!

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
