“MY LAMP”

“For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness.”

2 Samuel 22:29 ESV

O Lord, Your Word is a lighted lamp to my path

Let Your light search also my innermost parts

Remove my pride, anger, bitterness and wrath

Renew within me a right spirit, create a new heart

Jesus, You are the shining lamp, so I rejoice

Fill my whole body with Your righteous light

I plead for Your mercy with an unworthy voice

Remove every dark part, make me wholly bright

You are the light of the world, Your praises I sing

All who follow You will no longer walk in darkness

You, O Lord, are my hope and the light everlasting

I claim the light of life and Your gift of righteousness

How I long for Your city that needs no sun or moon

Night will be no more, behold the lamp of the great I Am

For only Your glory shines the light steadfast and true

Christ Jesus, risen Redeemer, the lamp is the Lamb!

Hallelujah and amen!

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
