“A SURE AND STEADFAST ANCHOR” (For Patricia)

“We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,”

Hebrews 6:19 ESV

Dear Lord,

You are the hope of my soul, the new covenant’s guarantor

Through every storm you are my sure and steadfast anchor

On the Cross your love displayed, our many sins you bore

Forgiving us with your last breath, O how that curtain tore!

You satisfy the longing soul, gifting us every good thing

“Worthy is the Lamb” the anthem my soul loves to sing

My hope is in your living Word, my shield, my hiding place

By your blood I am forever redeemed, I am saved by grace

Now my new heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast

O how I long to see my risen Savior King face to face at last

I will always sing your praises, how you rescued the unworthy

Only in your righteous arms do I find perfect peace and mercy

My Redeemer reigns in my heart, you rended the second curtain

There is no one like you, O Lord, your love I know for certain

Your forgiveness and love are everlasting, your promises sure

Behold the One who calms the sea is my soul’s steadfast anchor!

Amen

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
