“SEARCH ME, O GOD”

“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”

Psalm 139:23-24 ESV

I trust in you, Lord God, with my whole heart

May the love of Christ Jesus dwell in me by faith

In everything, I want to exalt you from the start

Daily you graciously make my path straight

I have turned from my sin to your everlasting light

Exchanging my burdens for your righteousness

May my meditation be acceptable in your eyes

How I long to be forever in your holy presence

Search my unworthy heart, Lord, and know me

Let praise well up within my soul and spill forth

My Redeemer, you gift me joy, hope and mercy

In you, Christ Jesus, I find grace and my true north

O Lord, see me through this new life you have given

I hold on to the promise you will never forsake me

May your will be done in my life for I am forgiven

Search me, O Lord, hold my heart for all of eternity!

Amen

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
