THIS AFFLICTION

“This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.”

Psalm 119:50 ESV

There is only one who comforts us in all our afflictions

Let the steadfast love of Jesus Christ ever comfort me

When we are afflicted, it is for our comfort and salvation

If we share in his sufferings, he gifts us grace and mercy!

Because of my sin my outer self keeps wasting away

The days of affliction never cease to come to meet me

By the Holy Spirit my inner self is renewed day to day

Blessed is the God of all comfort, the Father of mercy!

My inward parts are never still but stay in constant turmoil

Afflicted in every way but not crushed or driven to despair

I seek forgiveness when I consider my affliction and trouble

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, constant in prayer!

Christ Jesus was betrayed, despised and rejected by men

He was a man of sorrows and acquainted with terrible grief

On that cruel tree our Redeemer bore in his body all our sins

And we esteemed him not, but by his wounds we are healed!

My present sufferings do not compare to the glory promised

I will rejoice in suffering knowing that it produces endurance

If persecuted I am not forsaken, if struck down not destroyed

Endurance produces character, hope and blessed assurance!

“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,” (2 Corinthians 4:17 ESV)

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
