SORROW MELTS AWAY

“My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!”

Psalm 119:28

Who has sorrow? Who has woe? Who has strife?

O Lord, my soul thirsts for you like a parched land

My life is spent in sorrow and my years with a sigh

You are my only hope, to you I stretch out my hand

To you, I lift up my languishing and lost soul, Lord

My heart and strength fail because of my iniquity

Longing for salvation, my soul hopes in your word

Thank you for forgiveness and your abundant mercy

You have graciously delivered my soul from death

“My eyes from tears and my feet from stumbling”

I will praise you, Lord God, even with my last breath

To walk before you in the promised land of the living

I seek you and your strength, Jesus, my strong refuge

For I am redeemed by the blood of the Lamb by grace

You restore my soul, lead me by all that is right and true

My truthful lips shout for joy, I will ever sing your praise

“Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!”

(Psalm 116:8, Psalm 146:1)

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
