“TRUELY FREE”

“Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and in irons, for they had rebelled against the words of God, and spurned the counsel of the Most High. So he bowed their hearts down with hard labor; they fell down, with none to help. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart.” Psalm 107:10-14 ESV

Hear the loud clanging sound of breaking iron

I am free at last, the bonds of my sin burst apart

Heavy scales fall from my eyes to see the Son

My Lord and Savior redeeming my stony heart

I stand firm, for freedom Christ has set me free

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom

He has delivered me by his great love and mercy

From the domain of darkness to his holy kingdom

I abide in the living word to know all that is true

By his abundant grace the truth has set me free

Free from the chains of corruption, I am made new

If the Son of God sets one free, you are free indeed!

I am a slave to the righteousness of the living water

My old self has been crucified with Jesus Christ

Raised on the third day by the glory of the Father

So that we might always walk in the newness of life!

Heavy scales fall from my eyes to see the Son

My Lord and Savior redeeming my stony heart

Hear the loud clanging sound of breaking iron

I am free at last, the bonds of my sin burst apart!

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until a few of years ago that my writing became more spiritual and at the same time more prolific. As I shared my poetry with my wife, Hannah, and a few good friends, they encouraged me to place the poems in book form. My first book endeavor was “Because Of Him”, published in 2017. After hearing Sammy Murimi, the director of Share International Inc., speak at our church, I decided that the proceeds from that book would be donated to Share. In 2018, Hannah and I were privileged to go to Turkanaland in Kenya on a mission trip with Share. It was a life-changing experience for us both. Some of the inspiration from that trip is expressed in my second book, “His Cup Pours Out”. I include scripture verses with my poems because most of the poems I have written were inspired by reading God’s Word. I hope that as you visit this blog, you will meditate on the scripture verses and write down your prayers and thoughts for the week. My goal for this project has always been that God would be glorified! Robert M Hinnen
